So I just returned from a week-long retreat to Maine where I lived every minute unscheduled and outside. It was easy and silent. I read a book not social media pages, devoured great food and took a drama diet- it was bliss.
A few readers and friends have asked me where I have been lately- if I am quitting this blog, my workshops, my TV gig… I wanted to give an honest answer to all of those questions.
Back at the beginning of this year I made a decision to concentrate on making the best use of my greatest commodity: time.
I went part- time on the Morning Show shortening my shift so I could try to improve my energy and health- that worked almost instantly. I also decided to cut back on public workshops so I could better manage all the corporate requests and speaking engagements I had committed to- that helped!
And the blog? Well…
Here is the thing about the Blog. I have decided to only write when I feel compelled to share something valuable and never allow it to become a chore or duty. I am aware there are many passionate bloggers out there who do this sort of thing for a living and do it quite well. But:
Here is the BUT…
I don’t want to check my stats, obsess about numbers or spend my days hunched over my laptop. I want to live- and just as much- I want you to LIVE too.
We need to enjoy our breathing moments out there in the air and offline as much as possible. This is a tool, not an excuse for living. By all means I believe you can use it to enhance your life experience, however social media and blogging are weak substitutes for living, I want a full vibrant life- don’t you? We need to stop treating time like it is disposable, wasting it on senseless dribble. There is plenty out there to divert your attention and cause you to drift from your true desires. Let this be YOUR nudge. Start by limiting your time online and increasing your time out in the real world. Here is how:
List 5 pleasures you will do this week offline, that you have been meaning to prioritize for ages. No more excuses, no more mindless diversions- GO LIVE BIG. I am doing it too.
I will be here when you get back (like it or not) to nudge you again when I feel the moment is right.
For those interested in my next public Meditation workshop I will formally announce it soon but it will be the last Sunday in September, 8pm- Moksha Hamilton.
Be well- live better!
